New Funding Opportunity for New Mexico
Farmers, Ranchers and Agricultural Producers

Application opening: March 25, 2024

Farm to Table's (FTT) New Mexico Farmer Innovation Program (NMFIP) is pleased to announce that we are opening a Request for Applications (RFA) for the Urban Agriculture Initiative Micro-Grant funding opportunity. If you are a small farmer, rancher or agricultural producer who sells your products in an urban market in New Mexico you may be eligible to apply for a non-matching grant.

The goal of this grant program is to improve access to healthy food in urban markets, Tribal communities, and small towns across New Mexico. The grants are competitive, and will be awarded in amounts of up to $20,000 based on eligibility and merit, for projects that take place in 2024. Priority will be given to underserved producers and projects which impact underserved communities.

Objectives and Goals of the Program
  • Implement conservation practices that will improve resilience to climate change and on-farm sustainability practices.
  • Increase underserved farmers’ capacity for growing food, expanding operations, implementing climate-friendly practices, and building resilience to a changing climate.
  • Provide supplies, equipment and technical assistance to farmers that provide healthy food to underserved urban populations.
  • Support farmers who may not qualify for other USDA funding.

Eligible Expenses
  • To enhance ongoing urban agriculture programs led by new and established urban agricultural leaders, stakeholders, growers, and farmers.
  • To leverage or implement conservation practices.
  • Purchase or lease on-farm infrastructure, equipment, supplies and materials, such as but not limited to,  irrigation, tools and  printed materials.
  • Provide cost share for some qualifying grants, as the match goes towards a project that has to do with urban agriculture.
  • To expand growing operations if funding is not currently accessible through existing USDA programs.
  • Access and or provide access to training and technical assistance for  producers, such as but not limited to soil testing, grant assistance and other services.
